  • I am planning on writing a book on some very basic Christian principles. The below are some ideas taken from two of the chapters one called Incursions: Cults and Counterfeits and the other under the working title Education and Indoctrination.

    1. You know I heard one person commenting on the more educated generally being more liberal or humanistic in thought as if this proves that such views of the elite are correct. What they failed to take into account is the vast amount of indoctrination as opposed to education that goes on in academia. Just like most journalist are liberal so are most teachers and professors. This is by design as they say they want to influence the younger generation.

    2. Many so called Christians can say they believe in your Jesus and make fine sounding arguments. If you keep to some of the central points of the gospel and know what their own holy men say it is easy to show that they truly teach a different Jesus. below are a few comparisons of one of the major cults with many strange teachings teaches at its core.

    Cult teaching- The Father was once aman like us who progressed to become a God and has a body of flesh and bone(Doctrine and Covenants 130:22).

    Scripture teaches as shown in John 1:1 that God was at the beginning already there. This particular verse refers to Jesus as part of the Trinity existing for eternity. Scripture also specifies that God is Spirit as Jesus Talk with the woman at the well points out

    Cult Teaching 2 -Jesus Christ,humans, angels, and fallen spirits including Satan are all eternal beings thatwere never created and that are all spirit brothers and sisters.In particular, Christ and Lucifer  were two spirit brothers;(Doctrine andCovenants 93:21-33; Gospel Principles [2009], 9-10;

    This Goes Directly against creation in Genesis and the as well as the description of angels in Hebrews 1.

    There are as stated above many more heresies and weird teachings but even these two should suffice to show this group at its core is far from servants of the living God.

  • I think an important topic for you to consider covering is something I am sure you have heard me meantion in the past. It is what I consider a direct correlation between what I would call elder law or mosaic law. I find that all cults seem to have this commonality in them. None of them seem to believe in absolute truth aand absolute infallibility of scripture. They all believe they need some elder that is going to teach them what God is really saying. They do not believe in the Holy Spirit even if they claim they do it is their definition rather than the scriptural definition which is greatly diminished in power. Christ called the Holy Spirit the Teacher, the Comforter. If the Holy Spirit is the Teacher that trumps the Elder’s teaching. These are the common things they all have. So when people get in them enslavement occurs under a mosaic law system. That is how the Jehovah’s Witnesses get their followers to go knock on all those doors. That is also how the Mormons do also. it is all a system without grace based upon Mosaic law. I would consider these topics as a possible addition to your book for the Body of Christ has not dealt with these things much. These things defined would benefit the community greatly.

  • @RobertLeeRE - Good point. The idea of works is always prevalent, but I was not thinking in terms of the Mosaic law.

  • @New1E13_15 - this is something I found all the cults have in common, if your interested in exploring that avenue.

  • @RobertLeeRE - Legalistic definitely: The cult I was actually using as one of my prime examples (LDS) does not seem to focus on old Testament law as their temples and priesthood violate it. The others I have seen however definitely lean on the Law. LDS seems to rely more on the occultic thinking than good old fashioned pharisitical stubborness.

  • I am no expert on LDS but I did live in Ogden, Utah for a summer and always thought the LDS considered themselves an offshoot of Judasim that was seperated before they went into Babylon, or something like that. I believe they preach replacement theology and consider themselves, and Utah, the place of the real Temple. Seems like Mosaic law to me. The thing about mosaic law is there is always a choose and pick which laws of the mosaic code is followed. They all embrace thier hypocracy. Some regulations are okay and others are disgarded, always with a very religous sounding reason. But it sounds like you might know more about LDS than I. What I know is only very superficial. It is kind of difficult to get real info since they are always so guarded.  They call them Temples-sounds mosaic to me..but like I said I haven’t studied it deeply. The men cut their hair like its right out of Leviticus.

  • On that cult teaching two. I’ve had a idea drop in my mind as well about Christ, and Lucifer being brothers. Two reasons of why I’d think that (which aren’t in the bible, that I haven’t seen.) One is, would God been so angry at one of us exposing Eve to sin, and all of mankind? Two, Lucifer may of been jealous of the rank that God had put His Son. So he reached for His throne. I don’t know why that thought popped in my head a week ago. This isn’t something I would go out and blab my mouth to people, but I thought it was convenient on your post.

    Thank you brethren. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Charley.

  • @DprssdLonleyOne - It is hard for me to think such a thing but for someone who does not know Jesus yes that could be a thought.

  • Indoctrination refers to the manipulation of young and impressionable minds which have not developed a capacity for critical thinking, particularly very young children. Colleges aren’t indoctrinating anybody, they’re educating them.
